Tell us a bit about Livin’ the Dream Creations.
Livin’ the Dream Creations is a work in progress built over time. I am a Freelance Writer/Author, Life Trainer/Coach. Through Livin’ the Dream Creations I hope to reach others and help them design a life they love and to unleash their dreams. Over the years I have worked in the shadows and hung back, however I decided that in 2018 I was going to make a big splash and touch as many lives as I can.
What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?
Livin’ the Dream Creations came to me several years ago when I had a friend who went through a lot of struggles in her life. She allowed the negativity of the situation hold her back. I simply started reaching out to her and offering motivational tips and what if you tried this types of talks. This really helped her make some positive changes and to overcome the things that were holding her back. Around that same time, I got the opportunity to do a radio show and to begin writing and working from home. The name of my radio show was Livin’ the Dream. After helping my friend and following my dream of working from home, Livin’ the Dream Creations was born.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Having freedom to be there when my friends and family need me and still having the ability to generate an income so I can take care of the financial side of life. I get to travel to one of my daughter’s house and take care of 3 of our grandchildren two days a week. I get to move about and I don’t have to worry about being fired.
What are your keys to making yourself productive?
Set aside time first thing in the morning to make time for yourself. Take just 30 minutes to catch up on the news while you enjoy a cup of coffee or your favorite morning drink, watch an episode of your favorite show or dable on social media. Next, set aside time for personal development. It is important to always try to learn something new daily. Knock out your most challenging task before lunch. At the end of your day take a short walk in a park or do some yoga at home to clear your mind. Reset your mind so you can be ready for the next day.
Tell us one long-term goal in your career.
To publish enough books to generate a substantial residual income. I want to increase my public speaking events as well. I want to get out there and reach as many people as I can.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?
Create multiple streams of income and do not rely on one employer. My husband was let go from a job he had been with for several years after he broke his ankle. He was a loyal employee over the time he worked for them but when he needed them they cast him aside as though he were nothing. So I realized that were going to have to get creative to keep ourselves afloat.
What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?
Take your time and build slowly. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to travel the road ahead as long as you don’t give up. Be prepared to fall, everyone does, but dust yourself off and start again. There’s nothing wrong with starting over. I am getting ready to reorganize and re-launch my business. This helps with growth and letting go of what doesn’t work. Set goals that you can reach and reward yourself as you hit them. Then set a new goal. Always have something you are working toward, that’s how we continue to grow.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Spending time with my husband and our family is number one. I love visiting with my grandkids and watching them grow. I love talking to my kids and hearing their accomplishments. I treasure the time I get to spend with my Mom and Dad. So many of my friends have lost one or both parents and I count my blessings that mine are still alive. Next, I love watching movies when I want to unwind or reading a good book. I also love doing DIY projects and crafting.
Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.
Go Pro by Eric Worre is a must read for anyone. I also recommend Jump by Steve Harvey. I would also recommend books by Lucey Knight…that is my pen name after all!
