Tell us about New Fit World TV.

New Fit World TV is a media company founded in 2016 to show working people worldwide how to have a new fit or new relationship with Money. Most people approach money management from the perspective of budget, cut back and save without regard to what we call “money matters”—the little things or feelings that also impact our money life. At New Fit we recognize and give credence that our emotions often partner with our spending habits and that they too must be addressed if we’re to be financially fit. For example, if one breaks up with a significant other, fails to get the promotion; he or she sometimes uses money like an alcoholic uses alcohol:  to feel better. Struggling money managers turn to retail therapy the way alcoholics turn to alcohol to cope with the pressures of life. We believe when these matters must also be addressed to turn struggling money managers into strategic money managers who live life by design; not default. We at New Fit want to show people how to be master stewards of money by taking strategic action and simple to implement financial tips so they can live like a millionaire on their own budget or salary.

What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?

I am a teacher who has always been good with money. I have been teaching ‘money lessons’ for years. A friend decided to write a book and asked for various people to contribute. I kid you not, she knows Dr. Phil personally and was expecting him to contribute to the financial portion. When that didn’t work out, I Timolin R. Langin was the next best answer. My work made the cut and I was then encouraged to write a book of my own.  However, PAIN is the main idea behind the book and hence the business. I, too was an Emotional Over-spender. Instead of spending on stuff, I spent trying to help loved ones and win friends. I believe there are things happening at our core that often speaks to how we manage/mismanage money, things, etc. and they are too painful to talk about:  fear, doubt and insecurities. So at New Fit, unlike most in the field of financial education, we start here and work from a place of compassion, offer support in the emotional arena and then proceed to sustainable financial tips and solutions. We believe this approach lends itself to a more permanent and direct impact on working people’s financial life and overall quality of life.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I love the work I do! I love seeing the lives of my students/clients improve. There have been many times when clients have come into our sessions crying and feeling like they are not enough, they are failures, they see no way out. I love the fact that they are comfortable enough to be vulnerable. Often, due to the prevailing approach to financial fitness our clients feel afraid and nervous because they think they’re going to be chastised. My favorite thing about my work is that we lower the affective filter by taking the “love approach” to financial and life success. I love seeing people walk out of our office happy, empowered and feeling like my financial house may be a mess, but all the money tools and cleaning supplies are here to clean up the mess and get financial house in order again.

What are your keys to making yourself productive?

Set reasonable goals and take small steps every day to achieve them. I am a MS native who comes from grandparents who worked as sharecroppers and cooks. I watch them be productive by taking financial dust; shaping and turning this tiny debris into home ownership, land ownership and occasional travel through the US. I learned from them productivity starts with strategic work. I set 3 mini-goals every day. In most cases, I achieve them and pat myself on the back for doing so. I think we working people sometimes forget to do this. It is important to take 5 to 10 minutes per day to breathe, listen to music and something to reward yourself for a productive day. On those days when I don’t achieve every goal on my list, I have learned not to beat myself up. I simply add that task to the next days’ to do list and proceed from there. I think the key to making myself productive is having a plan and diligently executing it; that does not mean perfection, but strategic and clearly defined direction. I also begin most mornings with quiet time and spiritual reflection which sets the tone for a productive day.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

My long-term goal is to make NewFitWorldTv the number 1 place worldwide where working people look for resources, financial education and information, plus easy to implement solutions, to use mind over money to live like a Millionaire on their budget. We currently offer seminars, workshops and want to start retreats for working people to gather, grow, be creative, start living their individual dream life while they are working toward their financial and life goals, be it– to increase sources of income, start a business, branding, etc. in an authentic and purpose driven way.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

My mantra encompasses the most valuable lesson I’ve learned through the course of my career. Financial Success (Success) is not a gift; it is a Habit! Our habits, what we spend our time doing every day is the key to continued growth and development. I love that most research reveals it only takes 21 days to create new habits.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

Read, read and read more. Even though I have multiple degrees, I spend at least 60 minutes per day reading, researching and expanding in my knowledge in my field and other topics of interest. And I also read for pure pleasure. I tell young people all the time that you’re blessed to have the University of Google, a wealth of knowledge you can access within seconds. I had to rely on the card catalogue when I was in school, yikes….I’m telling my age.

What are your favorite things you like to do outside of work?

Mantra #2, I work so I can travel! My favorite thing to do outside of work is to experience language, music and culture of diverse people around the world. I have been to 6 continents and nothing brings more life, joy, and fun than travel. I am also a huge fan of women’s tennis and my goal is to attend every major. I have been to the Australian Open where I sat on the front row to watch my 2 favorite players. I had my Millionaire Moment when one of them after winning the semi-final made personal, direct eye contact followed by a smile. I am looking forward to another moment as I will visit the US Open in August, followed by the French Open, and the grandest of all, Wimbledon very soon. It is my desire to see working people worldwide have their Millionaire Moment(s) as well.

Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.

I mainly keep up with my website, NewFitWorldTV.com and LiveLikeAMillionaireNow.com, though I read a variety of articles that appear on my newsfeed. Besides my own, there are 2 books that have had a profound impact on me that I would recommend to readers. In their own unique way,  George S. Clason’s, The Richest Man in Babylon and Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings have inspired me to put my best foot forward, to be authentic, live life on purpose and help others do the same.
