Q&A with Dameon Mahaffey
How would you describe Certified Royalty Music Group?
CERTIFIED ROYALTY MUSIC GROUP is a company built on a collective of people with the improvement of each other and supportive of one another’s goals and dreams. We started this company to provide a service of management of musicians, artists, models, actors and even community volunteers. We feel that if we can contribute to the betterment of the community we will be able to provide a product that gives back with the communities approval. That’s a win win for us. Not everything has to be about money. Some of the services we provide are: artist management and development, branding as well as being brand ambassadors and speaking on behalf of the brand. Some of us are designers of logos and clothing. We just want everyone to win. When one of us win WE ALL WIN.
Where did you get the idea of your business?
The idea of the business came from a conversation we had one night in the studio. We have always talked about having our own movement and our own ideas implemented the way we chose. Either make our own blood, sweat and tears make each other rich or work for someone else and make them rich from our hard work. I AM MY BROTHER’S KEEPER, YES I AM. So we decided to invest in one another and begin what we call “CERTIFIED ROYALTY” with our tagline being “BLOODLINE OF KINGS” (our own wave). So the knights of the round table (we are all King Arthur) is what we call Our meetings, turned into the future empire of “CERTIFIED ROYALTY MUSIC GROUP”.
What is the favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is networking to help my family (The ROYALTY) win and grow, being able to provide an outlet out of the bad environments we come from as inner city youth. Setting an example for the kids of the neighborhoods we come from to show them anything is possible. Providing opportunities for people who want better but may not know how to go about finding ways or outlets to do so. Giving back is a BIG PART OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE PRACTICE. You can feed a man once but he will be hungry again, if you teach him to fish he will eat for life. Don’t just show the good life, leave a path for others to find there good life.
What are some of the keys to your productivity?
Keys to my productivity are always staying up to date on changes in the industry and new ways of being creative. Reaching out to my mentors and trying to learn from them. Never staying still, going to events whether our artists are performing or not to show support. Support is a 360° circle, if you want it you have to show it. Staying in the know about what the industry is looking for and what we can implement to keep us in a always progressing and busy state. Standing still is stagnant in a business that will just keep going and growing without you.
Name one of your long-term goals?
My one long-term goal is to work with celebrities and build a strong network that are the frontline of major contributors to situations that befall us as a country. We need to be united and show a united front in dealing with the issues that matter most, such as education, hunger and homelessness, police brutality, and violence in our neighborhoods. It’s more than just initiating a program. There has to be constant and consistency in monitoring the programs and make sure that they are actually working and if not to make adjustments in accordance to have actual improvements of these problems. Community outreach and conversation to see what are the real issues, a platform for conversation is a necessity to keep progression. Some form of government must be involved and possible implementation of law changes and bills to carry weight for the best results.
What is one valuable lesson that you have a learned?
My most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that don’t expect people to work as hard as you do. You are the only one who truly wants your goals and successes to be met. Not everyone wants what you want unless it holds weight to what they want. It’s a shame because I believe in every one just had to learn to make room for them to let you down which is truly unfortunate. Lesson lived and lesson learned. Don’t expect the worst just plan for it.
What would be some advice you could give to someone just starting out?
My advice to someone who wants to succeed is persistence and relevancy. It’s a forever changing industry that requires you to stay up to date and keep your creativity at an all time high. Ambition will push you through the toughest of times when you feel it being difficult. STAY PERSISTENT AND GOAL ORIENTED.
What activities do you enjoy in your free time?
I’m big on family so I enjoy time and any kind of activity with my children. They are my driving force of support to be successful. I’m a sports, and music guy so going to games and music concerts is really enjoyable. Vacation, beach trips, fishing, reading, working on my autobiography and self discovery are all apart of my process to improvement.
What are a few influential books that you’ve read?
The most influential books I read are the 48 Laws of Power, Think and Grow Rich, The Secret, The Law of Success and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
