Q&A With Star Bourne, CEO of WomenWeedWork
Tell us a bit about WomenWeedWork.
WomenWeedWork is a cannabis consulting agency and blog. We fuse cannabis influencers with canna-brands. The blog is dedicated to women who work in the cannabis industry and all things cannabis related in women’s lives.
What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?
I have always been heavily influenced by cannabis culture and have also been in Public relations for over 10 years. Seeing the growth in canna-business gave me the push to join my passion with my purpose.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I get to indulge in marijuana for “research.”
What are your keys to making yourself productive?
There is a myth attached to cannabis smokers as far as laziness and procrastination is concerned. For me, it’s the total opposite. I wake up, work out, and smoke and my days are extremely productive. I am naturally driven by a desire to succeed so marijuana does not affect productivity. I don’t have a key move but rather just being in the moment and not dwelling on negative energies keeps me going daily.
Tell us one long-term goal in your career.
To make WomenWeedWork a household name in cannabis culture.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?
Be authentic. It’s difficult for me to do business with someone when their intentions are not clear. Being transparent and consistent about my brand and business goals has been a plus.
What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?
Learn every aspect of the industry. It’s not just plants and smoking. There are a ton of regulations, policies, technology, trade shows and more. The key is to be well rounded so you can then figure out where you fit in.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
My three sons keep me pretty active and busy outside of work. When I’m not with them I’m a total beach bum or bookworm or both.
Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.
is a great resource for those who want to know more about cannabis strains, news, developments, etc.
HighTimes.com is amazing but can be overwhelming for first-timers.
The Hard Thing about Hard Things by Ben Horowitz is my most recent read. Great for those looking to develop or sharpen leadership abilities.
