Q&A With Patricia Garza, Founder of Little Bytes News
Through this network community I hope to build a team of contributors and writers who can work together, support one another, provide feedback and resources to help learn and grow their writing skills and audience.
Tell us a bit about Littlebytesnews.com.
I recently relaunched littlebytesnews.com and expanded it into a news magazine on various topics and issues from “politics to parenting and everything in between”. I partner with other bloggers, writers, freelancers and independent contributors to provide a variety of views and topics.
In addition, with permission, I syndicate hand picked articles from national media organizations and smaller media sites and blogs to stay up to date on the latest news and current events.
I recently started an exclusive network of writers and contributors to Little Bytes News. Members are invited to join directly or through visiting littlebytesnews.mn.co.
Through this network community I hope to build a team of contributors and writers who can work together, support one another, provide feedback and resources to help learn and grow their writing skills and audience. This team will also become a social media team cross promoting one another’s content as it is posted on the main website at littlebytesnews.com
What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?
I’m a former elementary teacher. Since 2004, I’ve worked as an editor, social media manager, and political/news blogger, radio show host, activist and digital publisher. In 2012, I was nominated one of “Circle of Moms” top 25 political bloggers.
After becoming a stay at home mom in 2004, I decided to start blogging about various interests to pass the time and started Littlebytesnews.com as a hobby and parenting resource. Since then and after taking a hiatus the past few years, I decided to relaunch my site and make it into a news magazine since I have an interest in news, current events and journalism. In addition, many of my social media followers are also activists, bloggers and writers who share an interest in activism and staying informed about current events. This is why I decided to expand my site into a news magazine covering a wide variety of topics and issues.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
The ability to work from home, set my own schedule and be my own boss.
What are your keys to making yourself productive?
To keep productive I keep up to date on the latest news and current events so that I can keep my site content relevant. I also recruit other contributors to provide more viewpoints and expertise on various topics.
Tell us one long-term goal in your career.
A long-term goal is to have my website become fully monetized through ads and/or donations and any other means possible.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned since starting my online venture has been to never give up and to keep trying.
What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?
I’d advise them to follow their passion, network with others, seek collaboration opportunities and to keep trying until you succeed.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy watching movies, spending time with my family and cats, occasional hikes and bike rides and traveling whenever possible.
Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.
I’m not an avid reader, but I do follow the news and current events. A few of my preferred websites are Daily Wire, Life News, Daily Mail UK and Biblical Signs In The Headlines. I don’t have a favorite website as I prefer to get my news from a variety of sources then share what interests me or is popular on my news magazine site.
