Tell us about what you do.

I sell designer merchandise online through websites like eBay and Amazon. I recently got into male and female accessories, and I sell them at a bargain rate. I started this path by helping my mother in her store. There were items that she needed to move and was having difficulty at her brick and mortar location. I decided to try my hand at online selling and did well. I had always believed entering the business world was such a difficult process, but I found a great niche that allows me to work my own hours and be successful. I love providing what people love and really enjoy what I do.

What gave you the idea for your e-commerce business?

I realized how valuable it is to purchase online. The world today has a need for an online presence. When I was younger, there were only a handful of stores that had the option to purchase their merchandise online. These days, if you don’t have an online store, you are the odd man out. It is so convenient for consumers and has an unimaginable growth possibility if done well.

The idea itself came from helping my mother sell some older designer clothes she was not able to sell to her regular clients. When I saw how well that did, I was immediately hooked. It gives you a sense of accomplishment when you are able to help someone find whatever they were looking for.

What is your favorite thing about your chosen profession?

It’s something that I truly enjoy and have a passion for. I don’t do something that I find grueling or tiresome. I recommend that to everyone, find something you actually enjoy doing. A lot of people go into a particular field because of the earning potential, then will burn out because it just isn’t something they actually want to do. If you can find a place in an industry that you actually love, you don’t feel like you are working. That is what I have found and I can say I really do love it.

What keys to being productive can you share with us?

First, you have to be willing to take risks. Be prepared for the ups and downs of the business. You need to understand what your customers want. Always treat your customers how you want to be treated and always be reliable for them. The best way to stick out in a world of e-commerce is still customer service and efficiency. Online buyers want to know that they can trust their source. If a mistake is made, own up and correct it. I am always reachable to my customers.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

I am working on a way to make sporting and other events memorabilia more accessible to the common fan by creating a rental platform. Many people can’t afford a long-term commitment, but still want to be a part of the event.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned through the course of your career?

I learned from my parents that reliability is the key to success. It’s not just saying the right things; you have to follow through with what you say. I have also learned that you sometimes must be relentless in your pursuit of success. Some people aren’t prepared for adversity, but it is inevitable in pretty much any business. You must stay on course and push through even if it seems tough.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

I would say listen to all advice, but take it with a grain of salt, especially if they are trying to say your idea isn’t good. The first few months can be tough because it takes time to start seeing the revenue. Some may be discouraged, but when you look at history, almost every business starts out that way. Listen to yourself above all others and have confidence in your product or service.

I am a big sports fan; I love going to games. I also love to travel.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell myself to make every encounter worthwhile. Any connection could turn into a business-related relationship. I would also tell my younger self to be aggressive in your pursuit of success. Learn from everyone you can and be willing to change your business plan if you see the need.
