Q&A With Jennifer Cook, CEO of Fashion the Mind, Fashion the Figure

Tell us a bit about Fashion the Mind, Fashion the Figure.

Fashion the Mind, Fashion the Figure is my motivational speaking brand that specifically targets young ladies and women on how to obtain and maintain a healthy, pure and wholesome image of self without compromise. They are encouraged to do so by pursuing educational, personal, professional and spiritual excellence.

What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?

The idea was birthed out of successfully losing 80lbs when at one point in time I was nearly 300lbs. It began by me sharing my story with close family and friends to now being invited to speak at seminars, workshops, and conferences.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite aspect of my job is entering into a room of any size and pouring my heart into my messages followed by the positive feedback on the timely, riveting presentations.

What are your keys to making yourself productive?

As single mother of a wonderful 4 year old male child, in order to be productive I maintain a healthy work-life balance by exercise, quiet time by reading or praying and knowing when to say NO. I’ve established personal and professional barriers that I will not allow to be invaded.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

One of my long-term goals in my career is to travel internationally providing diverse audiences with motivational presentations that spur them to action to change their minds and lives for the better not only for themselves but there legacy.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned through course of my career is that being your authentic self and allowing others to experience your transparency has far greater reward. As people will come to respect and appreciate you more.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

My advice would be take your time, perfect your ability to connect with anyone or any audience and remain well informed so that you can take this information and apply it in some for or fashion to your message.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy traveling, shopping, reading, exercising and spending quality time family and close friends as we have new experiences together.

I’ve read Reposition Yourself by TD Jakes, Get Your Shit Together by Sarah Knight and Successful Women Speak Differently by Valorie Burton.
