James Hauschildt Promoting Health And Greater Fulfillment In Life

0

Dr. James Hauschildt has a wealth of experience in different fields, including healthcare, higher education, non-profit management, and philanthropy. He is the founder and board chair of the Global Education Ministries Foundation, a nonprofit organization he and his family started this year, which provides financial support for individuals to attend short-term mission trips to add greater fulfillment in their lives through service to others.

With a lifelong desire to help others, James Hauschildt entered the workforce as a healthcare professional working as a critical care nurse, then as quality improvement coordinator and education/training staff officer for the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. While in the Air Force, he obtained his Master’s degree in Business Management. He then earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Northern Iowa. James Hauschildt went on to serve in advancing roles in higher education as a faculty member, dean, and president for two different organizations.

Mr. Hauschildt has always been an advocate for those wanting to pursue an education, thus advancing every graduate’s personal and professional opportunities in life. Bearing in mind that education is inaccessible to so many people around the world, he wanted to make a difference and create an organization to help expand the number of volunteers who want to serve, but don’t have the means to do so. Thus, Global Education Ministries Foundation was born.

As an experienced leader, Dr. Hauschildt fosters effective teamwork, transparent communication, growth, and innovation within the organization as well as with key stakeholders. Dr. James Hauschildt lives in Mason, Ohio with his family.

Tell us a bit about what you do.

As a healthcare provider for over 20 years, a two-term college president, a lifelong advocate for learning, and a compassionate Christian personally committed to promoting health and greater fulfillment in life for others, I’ve been inspired to start a nonprofit foundation to help people who want to attend short-term mission trips, but don’t have the financial means to do so. I currently serve as Co-founder of Global Education Ministries Foundation. My wife and I began earlier this year and work every day to cultivate financial support for individuals seeking greater fulfillment in life through service on short-term mission trips in the U.S. and Internationally. Additionally, in my most recent role as President at Good Samaritan College for nearly four years, I oversaw all operational, financial, and strategic aspects of the institution, and supervised executive leaders in Advancement/Development, Enrollment Management, Academic Programs, Alumni Relations, Accreditation and Compliance, as well as Marketing and Communications.

What gave you the idea for (what you do/your company)? How did it start?

Education remains inaccessible for millions of people around the world. More than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate and do not have the resources necessary to improve both their living conditions and those of their children. The majority of people, a staggering 70%, are disgruntled about the direction of their companies, feel their needs aren’t being met at work, and don’t fully understand what’s expected of them! They feel negative about the purpose of their work, the culture of their workplace, and are doing more harm than good when they come to work.

Mission trips are a good way to get out and make a difference by volunteering. Churches and nonprofits organize mission trips but for many, the cost of travel and accommodations is too much. Also, many people can’t afford to take the time off work and rely on friends and neighbors for financial assistance. We are working to change that! Service to others through missions will help you to understand people in a way that can only be experienced. While most short-term missions are only a few weeks in duration, it transforms the way you think for the rest of your life. When we experience the ability to serve and empower others, it becomes something very tangible and real. So, consider going on a mission trip, develop new relationships, or volunteer time to help us serve others if you’d like to begin there! We trust you’ll feel more fulfilled when you do!

What’s your favorite thing about your chosen profession?

Definitely helping others. I’ve been SO fortunate in my life and blessed with so many opportunities. I want this chapter of my career and life to be about what I’ve contributed to my family and to others in need.

What keys to being productive can you share with us?

Structure the time by scheduling your day, yet be flexible and allow for interruptions. I schedule my workday, as well as time spent learning and researching what’s happening in the industry.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

Serve this Foundation through providing support for others who want to go on a mission trip, and occasionally serve on at least one per year with my family!

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

Especially during times of dramatic organizational change, doing the “right thing” always has multiple perspectives of “truth”…so be careful to consider the various vantage points of how others may perceive situations, conflict, resolution, etc. and work to incorporate these other perspectives into the change management/resolution. I hear the term, “change is hard for people…” often, and rarely (if ever) hear, “people love change…” Most of the time, change is ok for people, as long as it doesn’t impact that person directly.
Remember that the next time faced with a period of uncertainty…personalize change for people, so they can adjust and incorporate what’s ahead into their personal and professional lives.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

Act with integrity every single day…wake up asking for the strength to live by it; remind yourself of it and stay humble throughout the day when working with others; and go to bed thankful and prayerful of God’s love and blessings!

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Spending time with family while traveling…we have so many great memories together. Trips like Yellowstone, Mexico, Disney Cruises, and backpacking Europe top the list!

Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.

Peter Senge – 5th Discipline — must read for working in teams during organizational change!

What advice would you give your younger self?

God provides…always. Face uncertainty with confidence, you’ll grow and strengthen. (Isaiah 41:10)
