Tell us a bit about what you do.

My main role within the company is two-fold. Firstly, I am responsible for the ongoing strategic development of the company and ensuring its innovation year on year and together with this I also deal with a number of our clients personally.

I am a firm believer on ensuring all our clients have access to myself and the other senior members of the team as strategic financial planning isn’t just about making money — it’s about creating new opportunities to increase wealth & reach goals.

So, my time is heavily involved with our teams and clients on a daily basis, but this gives me the greatest satisfaction and enjoyment!

What gave you the idea for Ogilvy & Haart? How did it start?

I recognized that there was a lack of innovation in the tax arena. I found that traditional tax firms were not well suited to providing a truly service or results oriented business. I created the firm to deliver a service tailored to the needs of our clients. This innovation has led to further services which we offer which enable our clients to increase their wealth and provide a legacy to their families.

What’s your favorite thing about your chosen profession?

The favorite things about what I do, is being able to help clients and their families provide financial freedom and a long-lasting legacy to their families

What keys to being productive can you share with us?

Here are a few things I always bear in mind when trying to remain productive on a consistent basis:

  1. Empty your mind
  2. Prioritize your work
  3. Have a thinking position
  4. Pick three to five things you must do that day
  5. Have a daily action plan
  6. Do your most dreaded project first
  7. Never stop

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

To ensure I have been a real mentor to all the teams that I have worked with, and provided opportunities to others to succeed and develop.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

First your team forms. Then it will storm.  After the team finds a comfortable norm, it can then perform.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

― Buckminster Fuller

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I am a very keen reader, and I read a lot whilst traveling. Apart from reading my other great passion is football (soccer) and my team is Liverpool FC!

Name a couple of influential books you’ve read you’d recommend to readers.

“Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill

“The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace Wattles

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to exercise patience – the difference between a deal going great and a deal going sour can sometimes be completely based on timing.
