Disc Jockeys Now

Disc Jockeys Now started in 1999 and is still going strong. They provide DJ and videography services primarily for weddings, but also for reunions, school dances, corporate events, and all kinds of other parties.

In their 19 years in business they have performed at over 14,000 events and have a 98 percent satisfaction rate with their clients. One of the great things about them is that they have a song list of over 100,000 titles, with a separate list of the Top 200 Songs. There are even the Top 50 Most Requested songs for First Dance, Garter Toss, Father/Daughter dance, etc. There is definitely something from every genre and for every guest to ensure that everyone in attendance has a good time.

How did you get started in this business and what inspired you to?

When I was young, I liked to perform in plays or give speeches in front of others at school. This seemed to be the natural way to go as I got older. I enjoy knowing that I can help people have a good time.

How do you make money?

We all work hard, without a large staff so that we don’t have a large amount of overhead, which means we’re able to charge a great rate and still be profitable.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

We were actually profitable right away. It really didn’t take long to see that this service was something that was wanted.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted this would work? If so, how did you handle it?

No, I don’t think I ever doubted it. When you know that you’re doing your best to take care of your clients, things just usually work out, and they have and continue to.

How did you get your first client?

It was just word of mouth. I did some parties for friends and eventually just branched out and made it a professional service.

What is one marketing strategy besides referrals, that you’re using that works well for your business?

We do have an online presence, our website, but it truly is a lot of referrals.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?

That’s an interesting question. Probably having to stop working with a DJ that had been with us for a long time because he no longer had a strong client focus.

What do you think it is that makes you successful?

We know we’re not perfect, but we just focus on making each client happy. We work hard to make sure that what we do for them pleases them and adds to their event.

What has been the most satisfying moment in business?

Too many to count over the years. Anytime you get a phone call after an event and the bride is thanking you for the wonderful experience you gave her. Or when being thanked because we gave them good video footage of the elder relative who passed shortly after the event.

What does the future hold for your business, and what are you most excited about?

Growth is most definitely in the future. We have been growing and I think that will continue. The opportunity to take care of more people and add to their special events is an exciting thing to us.

What business books have inspired you?

Any of Napoleon Hill’s books.

What is a recent purchase that you’ve made to help with your business?

The most recent would be a new laptop that is so much faster than the previous one. It allows us to give faster service to our clients.

How do you deal with your competition in this field?

There’s a lot of companies that are doing this and we just wish them all the success in the world in taking care of their clients. We’re all just doing the best we can to make special events a little more memorable for our clients.
