There are several aspects entrepreneurs have to take into account when building a business. And perhaps the most crucial and vital aspect of all them all is having the capital to open up shop. Or have the funds to promote a product. And while crowdfunding can give you some exposure, it’s not always enough. That’s why Kyle Thomas founded InventureX. He wanted to change the way people collected funds for their ideas by elevating the experience for his clients. We recently sat down with Thomas to discuss his passion for crowdfunding and how his business is an innovative force in the industry.

Tell us a bit about InventureX

InventureX has become this amazing source for our clients. Simply put, our company brings ideas to life through crowdfunding efforts via digital marketing. But it’s so much more than that.

We set up pre-launch marketing strategies, social media campaigns, and PR outreach to deliver ideas to a wider audience. We’re dedicated to delivering the best for our clients, and we do so by really sitting down with each one of them and devising smart ways to collect funds for their product.

So far, we have successfully launched over 350 campaigns for clients. We’ve reached our target goals and since 2012 InventureX has raised over 20 million dollars using platforms like Kickstarter & Indiegogo.

What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?

I’ve been in the marketing industry for a while now. I’ve seen the way that startups and entrepreneurs have to dive into a deep and turbulent ocean to get the money they need for their business.

I knew how hard it was to really get attention on your product when the industry is so crowded, and I wanted to help people out. From there, the concept began to snowball and I found a way to change how clients got the support and crowdfunding they needed.

I knew there was a better way to deliver the results people were looking for, and that passion and spark blossomed into what InventureX is today.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

That’s tough because there’s a lot of things I enjoy about my job. If I had to pick one, however, I would say that hearing that a client met and exceeded their funding goal is the best part about it all.

It’s the whole point of why we do what we do. Our success doesn’t happen until someone else’s does. It’s a great feeling to hear how someone’s dream and goal has been met. And how happy they are to move forward in building their business.

What are your keys to making yourself productive?

I try to always give myself the opportunity to refocus when I get distracted. An unfocused person can get distracted by their phone, the tv, whatever. But by setting up my day or even week keeps me pumped to stay productive.

I’m also always looking into the future and watching trends to see where crowdfunding is heading. That means being prepared for change and it keeps me busy throughout the day.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career

Just one again? I’m kidding. But I’d have to say one major goal I have is to keep creating a platform that elevates our client’s experience when it comes to crowdfunding.

My goal to deliver even better results faster and more effectively is what I am aiming to do. My clients count on me, and I plan on meeting their expectations and then some.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?

I’ve learned through trial and error that’s there’s nothing wrong with the “error” part. I’ve taken it upon myself to not underestimate what I can do. But should I find myself not meeting my goals or “failing” I need to just carry on anyway.

The fear of failure can hold you back. I’ve learned it can cause me to end up with a lot of ideas and then have no end result. So I just keep pushing forward and try not to get distracted by it. I let it fuel my next move.

How would you advise others aspiring to succeed in your industry?

This is kind of in the same vein as what I was talking about before, but I often tell people to not get distracted when they get something wrong. If you can face your mistakes without getting derailed that’s how you’ll come out on top. Everyone makes them, so it’s not the end all be all of someone’s career. I would also say it’s important to stay passionate about what you do in the industry. If you find that you’re miserable doing the work, it might be time to pursue other venues.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy getting out and spending my day with my family. Living by the beach also has its perks. I try to get out for runs, sometimes biking and definitely surfing. It’s always a fantastic time for me when I’m out on the water.

Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers

$100 Startup by Charles Lebeau is a great read. I also really like The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven R. Covey. Both books have inspired me and driven my ability to always think outside the box. I recommend these books to people as well because they continue to be great motivators for others.
