Tell us a bit about your career?

After graduating from American University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, I received my Masters in Business from New York University.  This was a fantastic program that helped me jumpstart my career in journalism.  I joined NewsWatch in 2010 and have grown with the company, becoming the Executive Producer and host of the show.  It’s a phenomenal company and a show I love producing for all our fans. I have the chance to interview and speak with entrepreneurs and industry disruptors on every episode, featuring fortune 500 companies all the way down to exciting new apps and start-ups. I always knew I wanted to work in the field of journalism, and I’m excited to be a part of such an exciting program and company

What are some of the important factors that led to where you are today?

I was inspired by my father, who pursued a career in journalism his whole life. He attended Georgetown University and worked for major news outlets like The Washington Post and CNN.  His experience and love for the industry shaped appreciation and interest in a career in journalism. I also had an incredible opportunity for internships and real-world experience while attending American University.  The program allowed us to spend time in NBC studios and produce campus-wide news shows.  My childhood and time at university and NBC studios defined the career I would pursue.

What are a few of your passions?

Aside from journalism, I’m a huge sports fan and play soccer regularly. In fact, we won our city league championship the past weekend which was exciting.  I also love anything outdoors.  There are tons of great outdoor activities in the DC area from hiking, camping, to rock climbing. But I would say my favorite passion is traveling.  I will pretty much travel anywhere and my love for exploring the world keeps me always moving and experiencing new cultures.

What are your keys to making yourself productive?

One of the keys to success and productivity is loving what you do for a living. If you can follow that simple mantra, you’ll never work a day in your life.  But the real key to my sense of productivity and success is my inner drive.  I am never satisfied with the current status.  I have an inner desire to move forward, to learn new things, to constantly improve, and to be the best person I can be.  This inner desire and the passion for my profession have led to my success and need for productivity.

What are your short-term and long-term goals?

My short-term goal is to continue advancing my career with NewsWatch and help the show become a major showcase for companies of all sizes.  My long-term goal would be to expand to multiple channels and online avenues, drive up our ratings, increase our reputation online and on television, and to become the go-to-source for everything from tech, to travel, to health.

Whats the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

Patience.  Often times when you’re attempting to accomplish a goal, it will take longer than anticipated.  Instead of getting frustrated, it is best to work through the problem with a patient mindset instead of worrying about the timeline. When you are actively working all angles of a problem instead of creating new pain-points, you are able to find solutions you never knew existed.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

Don’t give up.  Sometimes the road isn’t paved in the direction you want, and sometimes the road isn’t paved at all.  The key is to tirelessly work towards your goals and learn from your mistakes. And don’t let anyone else define success for you.  How you determine what makes your life a success is the single most important aspect of life.  Don’t let another individual’s set of ambitions define your perspective or career goals.

What are your favorite activities to do outside of work?

I am a big outdoor fan, and love to do anything that involves exercise. I am also training for my second marathon, the 2018 New York Marathon. I am really excited to experience this as my first one was in DC for the Marine Corp Marathon and this one will be similar, but extremely different at the same time. I love to always push myself.

What are a few influential books that you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to others?

I’m an avid reader.  I’ve read a new book every month since I was a child. And while the content of the books matter, I believe the act of reading the inner thoughts of another human can greatly expand the way you think and interact with other people. Reading books on science-fiction, history, inspiration, science, or even fiction can all have an immediate impact on your actions.  But the value of reading is in the creation of new methods of thinking and processing information.  So while I could list a dozen books or websites to read and digest, I’d recommend finding a book that holds your interest, and pledging to finish it in a month.  Then find the next book and repeat the challenge.  Reading is a powerful tool – don’t pass on it.
