Q&A With Matthew Manning, CEO of MO ILL Records

The most valuable lesson that I’ve learned throughout the course of my career, is there are a ton of scammers in this industry and you have to invest your own money to get to where you want to be.

Tell us a bit about MO ILL Records, LLC.

Mo Ill Records, which was established in 2010, is a record label based out of Crystal City, Missouri. Our mission here at Mo Ill Records, is to sign, manage, promote and produce artist. The goal is to make Mo Ill Records, the global leader in music and entertainment.

What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?

The idea for my company was to give upcoming artists a platform to have their music heard the right way. How it started, was by watching music moguls who were successful in the music industry and take cues and pointers from the one who have a reputable name.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

The favorite thing about my job is being my own boss. I can travel freely and be independent and set my own rules.

What are your keys to making yourself productive?

The keys for me to making myself productive, is to keep making great, quality music and having the Cobra Immortal brand established all around the world.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

My long-term goal is to star in major motion pictures, win various music awards, run a billion dollar company and to provide others with opportunities.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

The most valuable lesson that I’ve learned throughout the course of my career, is there are a ton of scammers in this industry and you have to invest your own money to get to where you want to be. No one is going to get you to the level of success but you because record labels aren’t signing artists like they use to. Social media is one of the effective ways to market and brand your product. Brand and image is the two key ingredients you need to sell music effectively.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

My advice to all up and coming artists, is to be humble and never give up. You will have doors closed in your face and many will tell you no. Know who is your friend and who is a scam. Everyone will have their hand out. Perfect and master your craft. Stay positive.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I love to travel, shop, hangout with friends and watch other artists perform when I’m not performing.
