Q&A With TJ Murray, Founder & Owner of Jelloshotz Photography

1. Tell us a bit about Jelloshotz Photography.

TJ Murray, founder & owner of Jelloshotz Photography has 20+ years of photography experience from event to product; with the last 11 years focused on fine art photography. Dark fantasy original gallery pieces, fantasy portraits & commission photography services. Also one of the minds behind Wicked Shotz Consortium; tattoos, piercing, fine art photography, custom jewelry, & gallery.

2. What gave you the idea for your business and how did it start?

Did not like the direction of commercial photography & shooting for others, so started my own company. The brand is because when riding with an MC my handle was; Jello and I loved Shotz, soooo…

3. What’s your favorite thing about your job?

The freedom to create art I like but I also love seeing a client get their fantasy portrait or boudoir session images back and being breathless while going through them.

4. What are your keys to making yourself productive?

The people that are my center and support keep me focused on the end game.

5. Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

To have my work on exhibit in a large, well known gallery.

6. What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

Don’t be afraid to throw away the book and Always be direct, honest and amiable with clients.

7. What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

With the advent of technology that imitates the skills that professional photographers took years to master, the days of traditional pretty images by professionals will be fading. The only thing that will separate each is the artistic vision unique to all, focus on your vision, your message.

8. What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Harley, travel, adventure… Lived in 11 states, visited all 50 and as of 12/2017 visited or lived in 28 countries.

9. Name a few influential books you’ve read and/or websites you keep up with that you’d recommend to readers.

I don’t really follow mainstream literature or websites. Haven’t watched television in over 10 years. The only people I follow are ones that will not influence my art.
